1. WHAT IS A COOKIE AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Cookies were created in 1994 by Lou Montulli, an employee of Netscape, to solve problems concerning the limitations of identifying computers connected to a web page. Without cookies, sites cannot know whether two requests come from the same device, so they need to be labelled.

Cookies are saved on the hard disk or in the memory of the visitor's computer.
